Academic and Personal Development Programs for Emirati Students

Student Development Program provides opportunities to help students grow personally and academically to reach their full potential through initiatives that complement the Ministry of Education’s curriculum for government secondary schools.

About Our Program

The Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi Foundation for Policy Research was established in 2009 to aid in the social, cultural, and economic development of Ras Al Khaimah and the broader United Arab Emirates (UAE). Since its inception, leaders at the Foundation and its collaborators, accomplish this mission through the production of relevant research and direct engagement with policymakers, educators, and students.

Student programs are an important part of many students’ educational experiences. They offer a variety of opportunities for support and development, such as academic assistance, extracurricular activities, mentoring, and leadership development.

AmidEast Youth English Program (YEP-5)

The AmidEast program is sponsored by a federal award granted through the United States (U.S.) Department of State.

The Foundation served as the AmidEast local partner for the Youth English Program, providing strategic direction, support, and advice.

The Program aims to increase students’ academic awareness and opportunities by improving their English language skills, in addition to their communication skills through workshops and special activities. The program also focuses on important life skills, cultural awareness, and community participation through which students gain an appreciation of international cultures.

Technology Innovation Program

The Al Qasimi Foundation’s free year-long program teaches critical skills for today’s job market, including computational thinking, resilience, and confidence. It is open to Cycle 2 & 3 (Grade 7-12) students in Ras Al Khaimah Ministry of Education schools. The program covers python programming, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and 3D printing.

In Term 1, students will learn the basics of python programming and get the chance to program for a real-life scenario.

In Term 2, they will advance their python programming skills and apply them to a real-life scenario.

In Term 3, they will learn how to design 3D objects using Tinkercad and visit 3D Printing industrial facilities in Ras al Khaimah.

Ras Al Khaimah Fine Arts Festival School Program

The RAKFAF Art Exploration Program’s goal is to cultivate capacity as a center for social and human innovation and creativity in Ras Al Khaimah and the UAE. As a community-centered initiative, our Festival believes that art is essential for the holistic development of a society. Art encourages creativity, grows confidence, fosters collaboration, and allows new ways of thinking and seeing the world. Art is marginalized in the UAE’s public schools, and we see our program supplementing the missing curriculum. With a large emphasis on STEM subjects, art is only offered two hours a week in primary school and does not appear in the government curriculum of secondary schools. With the massive learning loss experienced during Covid-19, it is even more crucial that students expose themselves to socio-emotional learning through more practical and hands-on activities. The RAKFAF Art Exploration Program allows students to come out behind their screens and immerse themselves in experiential and kinesthetic learning. Students can interact, create, and discover in the natural environment outside conventional classrooms.

Ras Al Khaimah Internship Program

The RAK Internship Program aims to connect employers with ambitious talent and train and provide work experience to upper secondary school students, college students, recent graduates and experienced professionals within Ras Al Khaimah and other Emirates. Internships help train young graduates for their future career paths. It gives them the work experience and skills needed to be outstanding in the industry. In this new age where companies need employees with work experience, an internship role can provide students or recent graduates with a competitive edge. Visit internships.rak.ae to apply for an internship opportunity.

Hands-on Learning in a Box (HOLIB)

While the projects are vocational in nature, the aim of this program is not for students to focus on vocational education but to help them re-engage in school. By taking the students out of the regular classroom for one day of the week, and introducing them to an alternative, hands-on approach to learning, the program equips them with the skills, attitude, and behavior to pursue their career interests and to improve students overall well-being and success in school, we focus on increasing attendance rates, building meaningful relationships with peers and teachers, developing character, discouraging bullying, improving self-esteem and self-efficacy, strengthening communication skills, and enhancing life skills.
